REVIRGINATION !!!!

Few days back, I came to know how much cosmetic surgery has gone far. As usual I got home from work made a cup of tea and switch on the T.V. and there was one show going on debating about REVIRGINATION. Frankly, it was first time of mine to hear that term and was amazed by the development of the science and technology. However I was not totaliy agreed with the speaker who was a doctor practicing this revigination surgery. He was repeatetively describing it as a procedure to achieve your viginity once again. According to me he was just misleading viewers. According to me achieving viginity is possibe technically; but what about emotionally. It like someone ask you “hey are you virgin” and you reply ”yehh technically but had sex before”. Isn’t that funny.

In this blog I will puthforth some basic background information about revirgination, reasons why people undergo this procedure, and my point of view about the procedure.

In many religious and cultural groups, the status of being virgin is highly valued. These groups believe that the girl should be virgin when she gets married. Through the examinations if it found that she is not virgin then marriage is called off and she and her family are shamed. Or if her new husband doesn’t see a bloody bedsheet, he may exact revenge in the form of inflict punishment or expatriate of the bride. Thus in this cultures storing virginity until marriage is one of most important attribute that act as determinant of family honour. This is most important reason that had led some women to restore their virginity by hymen repair (revirgination/ Hymenoplasty).

I have words about this procedures with some of friends (most of them were not familiar with this surgery) but they said restoring virginity this way before marriage and not telling their future husband would be a cheating. One said that she would like to undergo this procedure after marriage (on her 10th marriage aniversarry or 20th anyway number doesn't matter) as a anniverssay gift for her husband. (Wow !! that was bit naughty) but yaa.. this are also subjective reasons some women may want to undergo surgery.

Background:

What is Hymen: A hymen is the thin piece of tissue that partially blocks the entrance to the vagina. It is named after Greek god Hymenaeus (god of marriage). It doesn’t have any biological function in women’s health.

It has been always believed that intact hymen is an evidence of girl’s virginity. However that is not completely true. Some girls are not born with hymen, and girls with hymen can break their hymen in various non-sexual ways such as:

Bicycling, horse riding, gymnastics

Insertion of medical device such as Tampons

Masturbation

Accident or injuries

Usually breaking of the hymen is associated by slight pain and some bleeding. This is perfectly normal. In rare situations, some women have reported no discomfort at all.

In nutshell, sexual intercourse is not the only way hymen can be broken. While an intact hymen does indicate virginity, one that is broken does not necessarily indicate the opposite.

Hymenoplasty (in simple words- Revirgination):

It is a simple cosemetic surgery that restore your hymen i.e. repair torn hymen.

Depending on your geographic location and choice of surgeon the price may range between $1800 - $4500.

Restoring virginity this way has criticised in conservative cultures as it is against their culture. Anyway will like to avoid talking on it, it may offend someone. Moving forward, some medical organisations have also criticised on this surgery as no such training is provided by them to their students; lifting questions on surgeons ability to carry out procedure safely without jeopardizing patients health.

Conclusion:

According to me, being virgin is not about whether women has her hymen intact or broken. A woman loses her virginity the first time a penis enters her vagina and men loses his virginity the first time his penis enters in women’s vagina. As I said before restoring virginity is technically possible but not emotionally.
